Water Baby
I just wanted to "blow my own trumpet" and tell everyone that I passed my free diving course recently. I travelled down to Gosport for a two-day course in the S.E.T.T. Tank on the Military base.
My pass was without doubt definitely thanks to the hard work put in by the instructors Alexis and David, a little pep talk on the final day by Emma Farrell who is an amazing free diver and, last but not least, my husband John. Who managed to calm me down and get me to focus on holding my breath, remaining calm and having faith in me. Plus I didn't want to let him down as he'd bought me a dive computer specially. Bless him.
To pass the course you had to take an exam (which I'm rubbish at) and perform a rescue from 5m.
I achieved a breath hold of 1 minute 6 seconds and dived to 10.5m which, believe me, wasn't easy for a first timer !!
Now the hard work starts improving on the personal best.

Hello Carolyn, belated congratulations! I adore freediving for recreation. It's some kind of meditation, too! Kind regards. Peter
Hi Peter......thank you for your kind words. I will hopefully get chance to practice a little more later this year when we head off to the Maldives for a couple of weeks. You look very "at home" in the water.
It's certainly relaxing - you are totally in your own world.
Cheers
Carolyn
Hi Caroly...only the other day I found that there was a very friendly reply to my comment. I did not get any alert, so this would look very impolite not to say "thank you" at least! Sorry!
I hope you did have a great holiday on the Maldives, with a lot of freediving time, too. I guess you must be a PRO by now. We are still waiting to spend a holiday abroad, but I fear this will not be before Spring 2010.
Best wishes from Switzerland.
Peter
